I read in the paper this morning that Paul Harvey passed away. I was a fan of his "News and Commentary". I know that there was usually more commentary than news but I think this is why I liked to listen. Mr. Harvey had a distinctive radio voice and his introduction,"Stand by for news" always caught my attention.

His "Rest of the Story" series was always facinating and I would try to figure out who he was talking about before he gave away the name of the featured person. Ocassionally I would succeed but more often than not the rest of the story held a surprise.

I think of two things when I think of Paul Harvey's broadcasts. One is the strength of the human spirit and the other is the need to accept personal responsibility.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Harvey

More Thoughts on Spring

Do you remember when you were little and rolling down the hill was on the damp grass was a sure sign that spring was on its way?

I tried this rolling this year too but I found out that it is not as fun nor as easy when you are grandpa age.

Just a Few Thoughts on the Possibility of Spring

Well, if the weather forecast is correct March should come in like a lion which means it should go out like a lamb. That means spring is coming soon.
Another indication that spring is on the way is that it is time for the annual Yakima Youth Symphony KinderKoncert. It will be tomorrow at the Capitol Theater.
Our favorite bassoon player can be seen in these photos. Sorry, one is a little fuzzy and in the other the bassoon is covering her face.

Week End

I guess I am starting my weekend a day early this week. Glen has arranged to work on his Eagle project tomorrow. We have a lot of dirt to move so we will need a lot of help. Hope some shows up. We have to get things done soon. Time is running out and the weather is not really cooperating but we have to go anyway.

Helping Move

As some of you may have noticed I have not blogged nor written e-mails much in the past couple of weeks so maybe I should explain what has been going on. On the 15th I left here to go help Heather and Stephen and boys pack up their belongings and bring them here. They have been with us the past week while they waited for the apartment to be ready. Today it was finally available and they got moved in (well mostly). Glen came and helped with the heavy stuff this afternoon. I got back here on Sunday night from helping them pack and move then I headed out the following morning to the NWFP Convention in Portland. This year Teri went with me. The only real problem with that is we left Rose home with the stomach flu. She took the whole week to get over it but not without her sharing it around with some of the other family members. It is too much of a story to tell but we are glad that they are settled and Rose is feeling better. Now if Teri and I can just get well.

Back to Work

Well, as always happens, the holiday is coming to an end. Hope there is not too much work piled up from the last couple of weeks.

Everyone has gone home now and things are going to seem quiet around here.

New Year's Day 2009

Do we look old enough to be grandparents to you? I have been thinking about time a bit as we are into the new year. It seems to have really gone by quickly. It will soon be 31 years that we have been married and we now have three grandchildren but it seems like just yesterday that we got married and of course to think we have lived in Washington now for 15 years is almost too much to believe. Anyway here is a link to an essay by Orson Scott Card on the subject of time that I found interesting. http://www.mormontimes.com/mormon_voices/orson_scott_card/?id=5656
